All students are taught key physical dance skills through the study of a variety of dance works and styles. Assessments are predominantly performance based at KS3, with students learning a variety of skills through performance, choreography and appreciation.
At Key 4 students are offered a core PE programme based on building skills learnt in key stage 3 and applying them in other fitness-based activities to promote a healthy active lifestyle. Students are also offered the opportunity to do leaderships courses to develop their confidence in leading younger students in physical activity both within our school community and in our local feeder primary schools. These skills are successfully built upon creating a sound foundation which allows students to study GCSE and A-Level Dance.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities in Dance and students are able to take part in lunchtime and afterschool sessions. We hold annual performances that students are able to take part in if they wish and have close links with a variety of feeder school where we run regular dance performances/festivals and workshops. We also run trips to various theatres and performances and students are invited to attend.
